DESCRIPTION

The latex file type template handles tex files.

General Editing


On creating a new file, a new header is automatically included into the file. time(2m) is by default enabled, allowing the modification time-stamp to be maintained in the header.

Hilighting


The hilighting emphasizes the Tex embedded command strings and comments. No special recognition of the command strings is performed. A simulated hilighting scheme is also available which hides most of the main command tokens making the buffer more readable.

Spell checking


latex support provides a latex-spell-check-word which helps the spell checker to distinguish between LaTeX tokens and erroneous words for improved spell checking.

Auto spell checking is installed for this file type, the feature can be enable/disable by default using user-setup(3), or by using the command auto-spell(3). The whole buffer can be auto-spell checked (hilights all erroneous words) using the command auto-spell-buffer(3), the hilighting can be reset using the command auto-spell-reset(3). Note that the current language must be set and spell dictionaries available for this feature to be usable, see user-setup(3) for information about setting up the current language.

Tags


A tags file may be generated within the editor using the Tools -> LaTeX Tools -> Create Tag File. find-tag(2) takes the user to the file using the tag information. The tags are generated using the \label keyword.

Section Jumping


Bound to the function keys f7 and f8 are section and label list generators. The commands create a list of all sections/labels in a temporary buffer, selecting an item in these list with either the return key or the mouse will jump to its location.

Folding and Information Hiding


Generic folding is enabled within the tex files. The folds occur between \chapter, \section and \subsection tokens. fold-all(3) (un)folds all regions in the file, fold-current(3) (un)folds the current region.

Short Cuts


The short cut keys used within the buffer are:-

esc h - LaTeX help.
C-c C-c - Comment out the current line.
C-c C-d - Uncomment the current line.
C-c C-h - Toggle between normal and simulated hilighting.

f2 - (un)fold the current region
f3 - (un)fold all regions
f5 - Enable/disable auto spell checking.
S-f5 - Auto spell check buffer.
f6 - Reset the auto spell.
f7 - Goto section list generation.
f8 - Goto label list generation.

The command latex-compile is available within the buffer which invokes an external process to build the text.
